secret sevice

read this lil piece of writing printed in my church bulletin today... matthew 6:2-4 NKJV
"Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
"But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what you right hand is doing,
"that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

I dont need no acknowledgement from people around me... i dont serve for "acknowledgement" and "recognitions" and "rewards"... those shouldnt be our goal in the very first place. Lessons learnt from my past, 'servants do not expect thanks for what they do'! well, it's nice to hear it once in a while but if you find that you need to be recognized for your service, you might wanna take a second look at your motivation... well, people-centered or god-centered, you answer that!! One will only grow cold, discouraged and in the end, give up in serving if one puts receiving credits from fellow human beings as the most important of all, above all else... i tell you, i've been there, done that... and i know exactly how it feels to be disappointed by your fellow homo sapiens...

i dont mean to lecture, i'm not here to preach and teach... i'm writing this to remind myself and to re-encourage myself... the truest kind of service is that which is anonymous... yeah, ANONYMOUS... Jesus once said that when you give, do not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing... never use your service for self-gratification...

sze hwei, you do not need words from others!! the type of service that rarely receives credit makes it even more authentic... even if no one notices, you do what you've got to do!! go, sze hwei! All for jesus... donkey for jesus... i pray, amen...

think it depends. Say, in working environments, we need some extend of recognition to climb the corporate ladder, right? Of coz that comes with hard work lar...

the verse in matthew talks about charitable deeds right? yes, blowing your own trumpet about giving to charities is quite hypocrite. bak kata pepatah melayu, 'masuk bakul angkat sendiri' or something like that. the banzai author is right when saying we should examine our motives.

so because of the words used in the verse, i think dont think it talks about being in the working environment. a friend told me that quiet ppl will never move up the ladder while the noisy ones do. sad but true. that's cause no one knows what the quite one has contributed to the success of the company so just stay there lah. like the story of joseph. if he said to the cup bearer, "oh, no need to tell the pharoh of my gift to interpret dreams," then he might just stay in jail forever. and never help his family members survive the famine.
